Three suffocate in deep well

SURAKARTA: Three people died over the weekend in a 10 meter- deep well after inhaling fumes of a diesel engine they lowered to pump out the water.

The incident in Kalikotes village, Klaten regency occurred Friday when Narimo, 45, went down the well to check on the diesel pump and fell in.

His neighbor, Sumarno, 40, oblivious to the deadly fumes, also fell to his death when trying to help Nariomo.

Suloto, the owner of the well, panicked. Ignoring his neighbors' warnings, he also climbed down the well and fell unconscious.

The neighbors were able to recover Suloto from the well, but not the other victims.

Suloto died at Islam Hospital in Klaten.

When police arrived, Narimo and Sumarno were already dead, Antara reported. (06)
