Three soldiers injured by mines in Ambon

AMBON, Maluku: Three soldiers of the Army's West Java 408th Battalion deployed in the province of Ambon were seriously injured in land-mine explosions while patrolling in Karang Panjang in the city on Wednesday.

"The three victims are still undergoing intensive medical treatment at the hospital," Antara quoted a military hospital employee as saying here on Thursday.

The employee said the three soldiers were identified as Second Private Mulyanto, Second Private Fikri and Second Lt. Suparno.

Mulyanto, whose legs were destroyed, is still in a critical condition, while the two others suffered serious injuries to their legs and backs.

The land mines are believed to have been planted by the two conflicting sectarian groups. --Antara
