Three robbers caught in Tangerang

TANGERANG (JP): Police arrested three men Saturday for allegedly stealing a cash box containing Rp 50,000 (US$14.70) from a motorcycle showroom in Tangerang.

Tangerang police chief Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said the three suspects, identified as Wagiman, 30, Wagiyanto, 26, and Purseno, 27, stole the cash box from the showroom on Jl. Muh. Toha in Jatiuwung district.

Iman said the suspects entered the showroom by pretending to be potential buyers.

He said the three suspects immediately entered the cashier room and one of them, Wagiman, pointed a knife at the cashier, identified as Budi. Wagiyanto then used a shoestring to tie up Budi as Purseno grabbed the cash box.

The suspects escaped by public minivan, he said.

Police hunted down the suspects after receiving a report from Budi and managed to arrest them because the minivan in which they were traveling was trapped in a traffic jam, he said.

"The police are still questioning the suspects on whether they were involved in other crimes," Iman said. (41/jun)
