Three police officers die in car accident

BOGOR (JP): Three Sukabumi Police officers, including on-the- alert unit chief Sr. Insp. F. Zaelani, 45, were killed in a car accident on Wednesday when their vehicle collided with a container truck on Jl. Raya H.R. Edi Sukma, Cijeruk, on Wednesday.

According to Cijeruk substation police chief Insp. Apud Syarief, the three officers were on their way to attend a routine meeting at the Bogor Police Headquarters when the accident occurred.

The other two officers who died in the accident were Sgt. Maj. IGK Masdira, 37, and Chief Sgt. Deden K., 42.

Apud said that Deden, who was driving the sedan, tried to overtake a large truck with a full load of sand when a container truck came at high speed from the opposite direction.

The car inevitably hit the container truck right in front of Cijeruk substation, Apud said, adding that the sand truck also hit the car, which then veered off the road.

Officer Apud said that the three bodies had been immediately rushed to Syamsudin Hospital in Sukabumi.

The driver of the container truck, identified as Uhan, was detained at the police substation while the driver of the sand truck later gave himself up to Sukabumi Police, Apud said.(21/jaw)
