Three officials eye post

TANGERANG: Three senior officials are in a tight race to
become the secretary of Tangerang municipality administration,
Banten, the post left vacant after Wahidin Halim was elected as
mayor for the 2003-2008 term.

The three candidates are Engkan Lengkana Ranu, who is
incumbent head of the public works agency; Harry Mulya Zein, head
of the education agency; and Nuriman Machyudin, head of the
health agency.

When asked for confirmation about his candidacy, Nuriman said
that he was not nominating himself as city secretary.

"It's the mayor's prerogative," Nuriman told Antara, adding
that as a loyal civil servant he would ready to do as told by
Mayor Wahidin Halim. -- Antara
