Three named suspects for tax evasion

BATAM: Batam Police have named as suspects three businessmen accused of tax evasion and selling the rupiah in large amounts to Singapore, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. The three businessmen were named suspects on Monday, just two days after they were questioned by police as witnesses in the case.

Batam Police chief Sr. Comr. Eko Hadi Sutedjo said the three businessmen were Amat Tantoso, Budiman and Meggi. Amat Tantoso and Budiman are executives of PT Putra Kundur Mandiri Valasindo, a holding company of numerous foreign exchange shops in Riau Islands province, while Meggi is an executive of another foreign exchange company.

The three men were apprehended by the police amid the plunge of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar. -- JP
