Three murdered over the weekend

JAKARTA (JP): The city police recorded three murders in separate locations in Greater Jakarta over the weekend, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said the first victim was Elizabeth, 16, who lives on Jl. Pecah Kulit in the Pinangsia area of West Jakarta. She died in the hospital on Saturday night.

Anton said the girl was alone at her residence on May 4 when a man broke into her home, and aggressively assaulted her.

The police have arrested a suspect, identified as Hasan, 25, who is currently being held at the West Jakarta Police station.

Due to the assault, Elizabeth suffered severe head injuries, broken teeth and lacerations to the lips.

Anton identified the second victim as Cecep Effendi, a construction worker and resident of Tambun, Bekasi. Anton said police were on the lookout for two people wanted in connection with Cecep's brutal murder.

Anton said the third person murdered over the weekend was Johnny, 29, a suspected thief who was shot dead by Tanah Abang Police at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Johnny was shot on Jl. Jembatan Tinggi in Central Jakarta while he was attempting to rob a passenger on a public minivan. (ylt)
