Three men arrested for producing porn VCD

After a four-day hunt, the police arrested three men for the production and circulation of a pornographic VCD starring a student of Padjadjaran University in Bandung.

The police identified the men on Wednesday as Yayan, 28, Deden, 27, and Bonkri, 23.

Yayan, a resident of Babakan Ciparay, was apprehended at his rented house in Tanjungsari, Sumedang, while Deden and Bonkri were arrested at their respective residences on Jl. Karapitan and Jl. Dipatiukur in Bandung on Tuesday, Bandung Police chief of detectives Adj. Sr. Comr. Siswandi said.

According to Siswandi, police also confiscated one handycam, one computer, one MP 10 and several pornographic VCDs, a camera, a hard disc and a reflector.

Yayan told the police that a student of the National Institute of Technology, identified only as AH, approached him in mid-July and asked him to transfer a recording from a handycam tape to a VCD.

Yayan, an attendant at a VCD rental store belonging to Bonkri, agreed and asked for Rp 40,000 for the service, said Siswandi.

"One hour later AH returned and told me not to make multiple copies of the recording," said Yayan.

However, he became curious as to what was on the handycam cassette and so watched it. Deden and Bonkri arrived and asked for copies. Yayan agreed and made seven copies, which were subsequently circulated in Bandung.

The woman in the film was a student at Padjadjaran University and has been identified only as Nn.

Before being expelled from the university, she reportedly admitted to being filmed having sex with her boyfriend in a hotel in Bali to mark a special anniversary in their relationship.

She said that the footage was meant to be for personal use.

Officer Siswandi said the police had the right to investigate the case without reports from either AH and Nn.

"This is a criminal act which can hurt people (AH and Nn). The suspects' wrongdoing could also create unrest," Siswandi told The Jakarta Post.

The three suspects, currently being detained by Bandung Mayoralty Police, have been charged with violating Article 282 of the Criminal Code on decency, and Article 40 of the Law on Film and Law No. 8/1992 on the illegal duplication of film.

"They each could get five years imprisonment," Siswandi said. "The two students, who were in the film, were victims of the crime, apart from the indecent act they committed."

Meanwhile the VCD is still being sold in Bandung for between Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000.

Reports say that the VCD is also circulating in Denpasar, Bali.
