Three KPUD workers named suspects

BANYUWANGI, East Java: The Banyuwangi Police have named three employees of the local General Elections Commission (KPUD) suspects in a corruption case involving Rp 849.6 million (US$89,400).

The chief of detectives at the Banyuwangi Police, First Insp. Watiyo, said the three had proposed a Rp 849.6 million budget for the acquisition of office supplies and ballot boxes, and that the money had been disbursed to them. However, an audit found the project was never carried out, leading to suspicion the money was embezzled by the three suspects, said Watiyo.

The three suspects are Amri, the KPUD treasurer, Tulus Hardoyo, the KPUD's general affairs manager, and Iman Santoso, the commission's secretary. -- Antara
