Three jailed for 62 months
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta district court sentenced three men to a total of 62 months for separate crimes yesterday.
Judge Endang Pratiwi sentenced Sui Aang for theft of his company's revenues to 42 months in prison.
Sui, an employee at Tunas Budi Harti publishers on Jl. Kapuk Kamal Muara in North Jakarta, had failed to submit Rp 165 million in children's books purchases to the company between Nov.14, 1994 to Apr. 27, 1995.
Prosecutor Djoko Widodo said that Sui had cashed customers' cheques and kept the money for himself. He then submitted bogus cheques from several banks to the company.
Sui, who has been detained since May 8, 1995 has 30 months to go before completing his sentence.
Meanwhile, judge Raden Ida sentenced each of two youths found guilty of stealing to ten months in prison.
Agus Duriah bin Kasini and Rencan Arita bin Acan were found guilty of stealing a wallet containing Rp 37,000, two watches, a pair of black Levi's slacks, and a piece of window glass from a home on Jl. Murai ll in North Jakarta on March 1, 1996.
Agus has been detained since March 13 and Rencan since March 21.
Following the verdict, neighbors of victim Suwiryo asked prosecutor Roekmono why the youths received only light sentences.
"They have been constantly causing problems," she said. (14)
