Three golds for wushu in Beijing

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Wushu Association (WI) is targeting three gold medals at the Beijing Open championships on July 24 and July 25.

Team manager, Supandi Kusuma, said on Monday that the golds were expected from Jainab in the women's tai chi event, Linawati in the women's sword and spear events and Darwis in the men's sword and bolo knife event.

Supandi said three other athletes -- Anton in the bare handed and toya events, Suhendri and Sendri in bare handed event -- were also expected to win bronze medals, the championships being their first taste of international competition.

"I'm sure they can win the medals. In the national championships in Jakarta two months ago, they won silvers and bronzes," he said, as quoted by Antara.

Supandi named athletes from China, Japan, Singapore, China Taipei and Hong Kong as tough rivals in the championships, to be contested by 24 countries.(yan)
