Three drug suspects arrested in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Police arrested three men, two of them Acehnese residents, early on Wednesday on charges of attempting to sell 200 kilograms of marijuana loaded on a truck in Medan Sunggal subdistrict, North Sumatra.

The three, identified as Ngatiran, 39, Taufik, 28, and Umar Riandi, 40, were caught reportedly waiting for buyers in front of Umar's home in Medan.

First Insp. Agus Pristiono, the Medan Sunggal Police chief of detectives, said the arrests were made following a tipoff from local residents who were suspicious of the fully loaded truck parked at Umar's home.

Umar, speaking to The Jakarta Post in the local police station, admitted to the crime.

He said that he and his accomplices were to sell the illegal drug in Medan, but the buyers had not appeared after three days. --JP
