Three die in landslide

BANDUNG: At least three residents of the Ibun-Majalaya area here have been killed and dozens other were admitted to hospital after a mud slide buried them near Pasir Tukung hill.

The three fatalities were identified as 30-year-old Ade Sugiyanto, 40-year-old Wawan and a two-year-old girl, Peni.

Pasir Tukung hill is located in the border area between Dukuh and Ibun villages, some 22 kilometers south of Bandung.

The landslide was the second to occur in the area over the past two weeks. On Nov. 14, a similar disaster also occurred in Mangunjaya village, Arjasari district, claiming the lives of four people and sweeping away nine houses.

Head of earth movement disasters at the Directorate of Landscape Geology, Sutikno, said the area was prone to landslides and added that his office would distribute maps of landslide- prone areas to the regencies to alert local authorities. (lup/25)
