Three arrested in drug raid
JAKARTA: The police had detained three suspects over the possession of 0.3 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) and a roll of marijuana during a raid involving 200 officers at Tangki, Taman Sari subdistrict in West Jakarta, City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said on Thursday.
Police seized 0.2 grams of shabu-shabu from Eng Wat, alias Suhardi Susanto, 44, 0.1 grams of heroin from Suryani, 25, and one roll of marijuana from Dony David, 19, Anton said.
In the one and a half hour operation on Wednesday morning, the police deployed some 200 of its personnel from the Mobile Brigade unit (Brimob) and detectives.
Anton said only a small quantity of drugs had been seized because plans of the raid had been disclosed to the public.
But the police would also conduct similar raids clandestinely at night so as to net bigger fish, Anton said.
During Wednesday's raid, which was part of the police's anti- drug campaign from Oct.25 to Dec. 25, the police had detained 11 people.
"However, we've freed eight of them due to inadequate proof," Anton said. --JP
