Three arrested for discharging sludge

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: The East Kalimantan Provincial
Police recently arrested three people suspected of discharging
sludge into the sea near Balikpapan city, East Kalimantan
province.

East Kalimantan Police chief Insp. Gen. Budi Utomo said on
Wednesday that the three had confessed that they discharged some
490 tons of sludge on June 25 into the sea at Handil beach, some
70 kilometers north of Balikpapan.

The general did not say when the three suspects -- HAR, BAK
and ISM -- had been arrested. They are now being questioned by
police. -- JP
