Thousands throng recruitment fair

JAKARTA (JP): Thousands of people showed up at the opening of job recruitment fair "Career 2000" at Bapindo Plaza on Wednesday to try their luck at finding a job or furthering their careers.

While some of them came armed with CVs for the 600 jobs on offer. Others (above picture) brows vacancies on the Internet using 24 computers made available at the fair.

The two-day fair, organized by Asia Expo and sponsored by PT Jobs DB Indonesia, involved some 20 major companies, including Standard Chartered Bank, ABN Amro Bank, Toshiba, Super Italia, Lippo Land Toyota Astra Motor and the recruitment offices of Auditsi Personnel and Kemala Global International.

The fair attracted people from various backgrounds and not just the professionals targeted by the organizers.

JobsDB also launched its Indonesian website advertising vacancies in Indonesia and all over the world.

The launch was witnessed by Yudo Swasono, head of the Ministry of Manpower's Planning and Development Agency Yudho Swasono, JobsDB Inc. chairman Samuel Sung and JobsDB managing director for Indonesia Eddy S. Tjahja.

JobsDB and its website JobsDB.com is an internet recruitment media founded in 1998 in Hong Kong. It now has 10 offices around the world, including one in Jakarta.

"Indonesia is a very important country. With India and China it makes up about a half of the world's population," Sung said.

Although internet users in Indonesia are still few, the potential for job recruitment is very high, he said.

Sung said Singapore needs a lot of talent from overseas and with JobsDB, the process for overseas recruitment is much simplified.

Representatives of some 300 companies were also invited to attend the fair and to register for a free three-months corporate membership trial with JobsDB.com.

Under the terms of the trial, companies can advertise on the site for up to 48 job openings. (10)
