Thousands of fish died mysteriously

BOGOR: Thousands of fish have died in the Cinaraga River and near Bogor have died mysteriously, affecting the livelihood of fishermen.

Ade, an employee of a fish pond, estimated that about 15 tons of fish in the area had died, inflicting losses of millions of rupiah.

He said that the dead fish were those which were almost ready to be harvested. They died with wounds near the gills.

"We don't know why they died. If it is because of the water, the water comes from the Cinaraga River, but the fish in the upper part of the river are not affected. Those which died are in the lower part," he said.

Most of the people in the village make a living by breeding fish. --JP
