Third baby found dead this year

JAKARTA (JP): A newborn, estimated to be two days old, has found dead in a plastic bag in front of a residence's gate at the luxury Cipinang Indah housing complex in East Jakarta.

The baby, still complete with its placenta, was found by a street sweeper on Wednesday at about 11 a.m. wrapped in a blanket.

Forensic expert Bambang H.P. of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, quoted officers from the Duren Sawit police subprecinct as saying that the sweeper was just about to take a rest in front of the gate when she smelt a putrid odor coming from the plastic bag.

A postmortem examination will be conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital.

The baby was the third newborn to be found dumped this year. It follows the recent discovery of a baby found dead in the back of an office bathroom at North Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Port. (04)
