Thieves trick maid in S. Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): Three men stole electronic goods from a house on Jl. Kalibata Selatan, South Jakarta yesterday after they pretended to book a room for rent.

A source at South Jakarta Police precinct said the three men arrived at the house on two motorcycles and told a housemaid, Sarimpi, that they wanted to rent a room.

One of the men left the house after a few minutes, saying that he wanted to buy gasoline, the officer said.

He said the other men then gave some money to Sarimpi and asked her to buy food for them.

When Sarimpi returned, she found the men were gone and a video cassette player and a laser disc player were missing from the living room, he said.

The house belonged to a retired staff member of the attorney general's office. (jun)
