Thieves take Rp 100m in jewel

JAKARTA (JP): Kebayoran Lama Police detectives are questioning four people in connection with a Rp 100 million (US$10,400) jewel heist at a jewelry store on Jl. Pasar Panjang in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, early on Friday morning.

Kebayoran Lama Police chief Comr. Herry Wibowo identified the people questioned as shop workers Basyid, Iwan, Mulyakin and Sauri.

"I'm sure at least one of them will turn out to be a suspect. I believe this was an inside job, since there is no sign of forced entry at the store. The roller doors over the main door of the store were not damaged at all," Herry told reporters on Friday.

The robbers only took jewelry, and left gold bullion and the safe containing gold jewelry untouched.

Herry said a shop worker, Sauri, was the first to discover that the store, Toko Emas Padasuka, had been robbed when he turned up for work at about 6:30 a.m.

The shopkeeper, Jamal Aspar, 35, then called the police. (ylt)
