Thieves net big haul in Sanur

DENPASAR, Bali (JP): Burglars broke into an antique shop here on Sunday and stole money and jewelry worth at least US$12,700 (Rp 101.6 million).

The EMI antique shop in Suwung, near the popular Sanur tourist area, was closed at the time of the burglary as shop owner Wayan Diasta and his family had left at about noon.

They returned three hours later to discover thieves had burglarized the two-story shop.

The burglars nabbed about $6,000 in cash, three diamonds said to be worth about $5,600 and two imported watches worth approximately $500. All the items were kept in a room on the second floor.

Local police believe the burglary involved insiders.

"The thieves went directly to the room where the valuables were kept and left the other rooms untouched. They also knew that the shop was empty at that time," said Sanur Police chief of detectives Second Insp. Wiwin Sirta.(zen/09)
