Thief shot dead on crime scene

JAKARTA (JP): Patrolling police officers stopped a theft that
was in progress at the traffic lights on Jl. Kamal Raya in West
Jakarta and shot dead one of the two thieves, a police report
said on Sunday.

Twenty-four-year-old Widodo, who lives in Warung Pojok, Kapuk
Raya, West Jakarta, died instantly at the scene on Saturday
night, while his accomplice, Mamay, 32, was arrested.

The report said the police officers witnessed the pair
pointing a knife at an unidentified pedestrian while ordering him
to hand over his wallet at approximately 7:15 p.m.

According to the report, Widodo resisted arrest and challenged
the officers to a fight. Widodo ignored warning shots ordering
him to drop the knife, and was fatally shot.
