Thief poses as cop, makes off with bike

JAKARTA: A thief dressed as a police officer stopped a motorcyclist in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, and then drove off with his bike, according to the police.

The police say the motorcyclist, Dediono, pulled to the side of the road after being waived over by a man dressed in what appeared to be a police uniform.

Dediono, a resident of Bogor, told police the thief then asked to see his registration papers. He then accused Dediono of riding a stolen motorcycle and told the victim he was impounding the bike.

Police say Dediono denied the motorcycle was stolen, but when the thief pulled out a knife he turned over the keys.

The police are investigating the case. --Antara
