Thief makes off with solar panel

GARUT, West Java: A thief stole a solar panel from the Guntur Mountain observatory in Garut regency, West Java.

"The thief is irresponsible. The lost of the equipment could put many people in danger because this equipment helps us monitor the mountain, whether it is going to erupt," said Ade Koswara, who is stationed at the observatory.

The stolen equipment is valued at Rp 4 million.

"It is not very expensive, but it is very valuable in monitoring the status of the mountain," said Ade.

He said he reported the theft to a nearby police post and officers were investigating. -- Antara
