Theft suspects burned by residents

JAKARTA (JP): Residents burned two people on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in repeated thefts in Palmeriam area, Matraman district, East Jakarta, a police report said.

Rudy, a resident of Pengasinan subdistrict in East Bekasi, and Ern, a Palmeriam resident, suffered serious injuries on either their hands and legs respectively, after some 50 angry residents caught and burned them.

Rudy suffered burns on his hands, while Ern suffered burns on his legs and hands.

A resident said locals suspected the two of numerous thefts in the area. Police have made no arrests in the incident.

The police report said the angry crowd attacked the two and burned them on the street.

The police admitted the two victims to Police R.S. Sukanto Hospital in Kramatjati, East Jakarta, for medical treatment. (asa)
