Theater stages 'Greedy Love'

JAKARTA (JP): The popular theater group Teater Koma will perform their newest play at the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center on Jl. Cikini Raya from tomorrow to June 22.

Cinta yang Serakah (Greedy Love) reflects the cast's personal observations as well as research done on the subject of love.

"Through discussions prior to writing the script we agreed that we no longer love and that we allowed greed to consume us," Riantiarno, a playwright and the group's leader said yesterday.

Riantiarno was excited about the upcoming play.

"We received our permit two days ago. We don't usually get it until the day before the show," he said.

Teater Koma performances have been critical of the government and therefore often encounter difficulty obtaining performance permits.

"We still carry a similar mission as in the past. Hopefully some people will reflect on the theme," Riantiarno said.

Their latest play revolves around the dilemma faced by the head of a family who has troubles choosing a successor.

When he finally chooses one, the successor refuses the position. Its excessive wealth tempts the family to purchase an entire city and display other manifestations of greed. (14)
