The wanted bullet still at forensic
JAKARTA (JP): A forensic team from Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital is still examining a bullet found in the corpse of Yap Yun Hap, a student protester who was killed last week, the team's leader Budi Sampurna said on Wednesday.
More tests have yet to be conducted before the forensic team hands the bullet over to the joint police and military investigation team, Budi said, adding that the forensic team "may hand over the bullet on Friday evening or next Monday".
He said that the handover will be witnessed by student, police and military representatives.
Yun Hap, a third year student of the University of Indonesia (UI), was shot last Friday during a two-day clash between students and security personnel. Eight people, including Yun Hap and a police officer, were killed during Friday's violence.
Budi said that only the joint investigation team from the police and the military have asked for information about the bullet from the forensic team, while an independent investigation team led by Hermawan Sulistyo from the National Institute of Sciences had yet to contact them.
Budi confirmed that the bullet came from .22 caliber fire arm and not from a hunting rifle. "I even called up the Association of Indonesian Shooters to confirm that a .22 caliber type fire arm is not used for hunting," he added.
The police and military headquarters have submitted a request asking for the bullet, and on Tuesday night their investigation team went to the forensic office and demanded that the doctors speed up their ballistic examination, Budi said. (04)
