The use of seat belts mandatory
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The use of seat belt will be mandatory in September this year for private car owners in Southeast Sulawesi province, while for public transportation drivers and passengers, they have to begin wearing seat belts in October.
The decision was made in a meeting between government offices and agencies in the province, including the transportation office, public transportation association and provincial police.
Gimang Rappe, the head of land transportation section at the provincial transportation office, warned that those who violated the ruling would be charged under the traffic and public transportation law that carries a maximum sentence of one month in prison or maximum fine Rp 1 million (US$ 105). In the meantime, the government will disseminate information pertaining to the new policy to the public. -- Antara
