The power of personality
JAKARTA (JP): Everybody wants success, but few know how to
beat a path to it.
One of the keys to unlock the door of success is the power of
one's personality.
You have to have the technical skills to do well in certain
tasks, and these skills are the capital you need to start your
journey.
Next, you need to have managerial skills -- the skills that
enable you to use the various facilities to support the effort to
achieve your target.
Do not forget also the importance of interpersonal skills that
will come to the fore when you have to launch corporations,
negotiate,
lobby or network.
Many people are familiar with the skills mentioned above, but
there are two skills that are often neglected, namely the skills
to project the right image and to use the power of personality.
Influencing
The personality power has to do with the ability to influence
others, and this begins as soon as the first impression is
formed.
Project sincerity and attend to those around you -- this will
help create the strength to be positive and to look pleasant.
Make people really notice, whetting their desire to know you
better. Do not appear to be subservient even if you are indeed
someone's subordinate structurally.
Minimize situations where you will have to be obedient to
someone else.
You cannot be completely rid of situations where you are
someone else's underling, but be ready with initiatives and
suggestions to reduce the need to be submissive.
Display your ability to think independently and place yourself
on par with everyone else.
Make people do things for you. Before you can possess this
power, you first have to place your trust on people and show them
you are confident they will carry out what you wish them to do.
See and be. By "seeing" your own power and strengths, you can
be what you want to be.
In order to "be", you have to tell yourself: "I will gather my
own strengths."
This positive message will consciously or otherwise influence
your personal system and push you toward quality power of
personality.
Visualize what kind of personality you wish to have and
project. Identify the various qualities that you have in
existence. Evaluate yourself as you are today and try to equip
yourself with the qualities that are important but you have not
got.
Remember, quit being whatever you are, quit seeing what you
are, but see and be only what you are going to be!
By taking a long and hard look at your whole being, you will
have the guidance to be someone with the ability to look at other
people's worlds differently, and this will help you appear
extraordinary and merit other people's attention.
Try to build mutually beneficial and pleasant cooperation with
other people.
Place emphasis on mutual interests, never sacrifice your own
interests, and try not to be authoritarian in your dealing with
people.
Do not say too much, and try to be a good listener. Good
relations are not built on excessive tolerance.
On the other hand, if you encounter people who disturb your
peace of mind, ignore.
Do not allow their rudeness or impropriety annoy you. Do not
allow them to drag you into unnecessary arguments. Try not to see
or hear things you do not like, even if they are displayed before
your eyes.
With your power of personality, you can care about and be
cared by people around you.
Listen to other people and care about their well-being. Tune
them in.
Your care for other people can be beneficial as it helps you
and the other people build both rational and emotional ties,
spanning to spheres even beyond your workplace.
This way you will be able to make people willing to
do things for you and follow you.
