'The Jakarta Shimbun' enters Bali market
DENPASAR, Bali: Jakarta-based Japanese daily The Jakarta
Shimbun began its distribution here on Thursday, targeting
Japanese tourists and visitors to this island of paradise that
amounted to about 215,000 people last year.
The daily is in the Japanese language, with only one page
dedicated to readers who speak English.
A total of 4,500 copies hit the streets in Bali every day,
with a retail price of Rp 8,800 each.
"Most of the news is taken from Kyodo news agency, but we hope
in the future to expand the news from Indonesian journalists,"
said the daily's marketing manager Ekana Yulianti.
The Jakarta Shimbun is the second Japanese media production
in Bali after The Bali Tribune, a Bali-based bilingual monthly
magazine. (zen/edt)
