The importance of English

I am 61 years old, retired and have been teaching English for more than 30 years and have no doubts about the importance of the English language, especially for our children's future in the globalization and free trade era.

One of my private tuition pupils, who is a fifth-grader at the Santa Ursula (Bumi Serpong Damai) elementary school told me the shocking news that starting the new school year, English would no longer be taught.

When I called the school and spoke to the teacher responsible for this decision, she couldn't give me a valid explanation and said she was only following orders. This makes me wonder: Has this been instructed by the Minister of Education and Culture himself or the Regional Education Office or the school master?

I am sure that many parents are also wondering and don't agree with such a silly and absurd decision.
