The heart of football

I write in response to Farid Baskoro article on July 22, 1994, entitled Boring World Cup, describing his quest to find the way to the heart of football.

As billions of people across the globe saw, the final match of the 1994 World Cup didn't conclude this marvelous competition quite the way we had all wished and expected. Unfortunately the two highly gifted finalists didn't offer the flair and attacking qualities that they have produced in the past, and as a result we had a crawl and tense penalty shootout. Obviously an alternative way to decide the winner of a game, that remains level at the end of extra time, must be found.

With regard to Farid Baskoro's remarks, may I suggest that if he wishes to see a show, that he considers "Holiday on Ice," it can be a lovely day out for all the family despite the lack of goals. Alternatively, still feeling bitter and twisted by loosing important viewing hours, he could consider writing to FIFA. You never know, if he manages to put himself over as a level headed man, with valued opinions, FIFA may decide to pack up their bags and call it a day, putting all the followers of the world's most popular and loved game, to rest.
