The future president

I would like to comment on the opinion of Wisdarmanto in his July 26, 1999, letter Sowing discord.

First of all, I would like to advise you to scrutinize articles six and seven of the 1945 Constitution, which stipulate that a president will be elected by the People's Consultative Assembly. The general election only elects legislative candidates, so the winner of the elections will dominate the legislative body.

Therefore, the chairperson of the winning party does not automatically become president of the country. You should not worry about Megawati Soekarnoputri. If God has predestined her to be president, let it be. The most important thing for all of us to do now is to create a conducive atmosphere for the assembly to carry out its job peacefully, because we still have many problems to solve.
