Thanks to Garuda
I would like to relate a very positive experience on Nov. 13,
1998. We were 50 expectant participants for Jungle Run 9 in Tana
Toraja, scheduled on the 12:30 p.m. Garuda flight from Jakarta to
Ujungpandang. Unfortunately, the flight was canceled as the
airport in Ujungpandang was closed due to demonstrations.
The telex from Ujungpandang mentioned that the airport at the
earliest would open up again at 9 p.m. There was, however, no
guarantee either of this or of whether a plane would be
available. After various telephone calls on our part to both
Ujungpandang and Balikpapan, we decided to reroute to Balikpapan
on the Garuda flight at 3:40 p.m. In doing so, we received a lot
of help from airport representatives so that all 50 participants
were accommodated on the flight, mostly in economic class, but a
number of us in business class at no extra cost. We even went
down to the cargo area to locate our luggage in order to change
its destination.
Upon arrival in Balikpapan, all the participants received
their luggage. We would like to thank Garuda and the Soekarno-
Hatta International Airport staff.
