Thai foundation donates rice for poor

MAGELANG, Central Java: The Thailand-based foundation Tzu Chi
says it is committed to donating 50,000 tons of rice to the poor
in Indonesia.

"Last year, we did a similar charity program in Afghanistan
when that country was disrupted by a war, and this year we do in
Indonesia," foundation donation distribution coordinator
Sudarmono said on Friday.

The rice will be distributed to poor families in Java,
Kalimantan, Sumatra and Papua in cooperation with local
administrations on the islands, starting early in October.

Each family will receive 20 kilogram. --Antara
