Ten cars damaged in chain accident

JAKARTA (JP): Ten cars were damaged beyond repair in a chain accident on the Jl. Yos Sudarso tollroad heading toward Sunter in North Jakarta, on Wednesday morning.

No fatalities were reported at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) morgue, despite strong rumors that one person had reportedly died in the accident.

At least three people were reported to have suffered injuries.

A fire engine was sent to the area to put out the fire caused by the accident, which involved a Toyota Kijang van, three sedans, a taxi and five other cars.

The accident, which occurred at about 7:30 a.m., brought traffic to a total halt on the tollroad, particularly because tollroad operators had to close the Sunter tollgate in order to deal with the accident.

Buses heading for Sunter also got stuck in the traffic jam, and therefore took a diversion towards Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. (ylt)
