Tempo's 2,500th shipment

JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed pharmaceutical and cosmetic producer PT Tempo Scan Pacific Tbk. made its 2,500th shipment in eight years on Tuesday.

Three containers weighing 50 tons each were given a formal sendoff from Tempo's factory at the Pulogadung industrial estate in East Jakarta. They were bound for markets in the Middle East and Africa.

The company has exported 3.5 billion units of medicine and 300 million bars of soaps worth US$80 million since beginning exports in 1992, managing director for personal care and cosmetics Erly Anggrahini said during the ceremony.

Founded in 1970, the company's main product lines include Bodrex, Hemaviton, Flucyl, Revlon, Camay and Pritho. The company, part of the Tempo Group, employs about 7,000 people at its seven plants across the country.

Having paid nearly all of its foreign debts of $105 million ahead of schedule in December, Erly said Tempo Scan Pacific hoped exports could reach $20 million this year. (07)
