Telkomsel launches office solution

JAKARTA: Mobile telecommunications operator PT Telkomsel, together with mobile phone producer Motorola and software company Microsoft, launched on Wednesday an integrated mobile office solution for its corporate customers.

Called "Windows on Telkomsel", the mobile office solution will enable customers to access their companies' intranets for data synchronization and email and internet services through their mobile phones, just like they would through their office desktop computers.

"We plan to virtually move the desktop to the road and create a convenient mobile office environment for our customers," said Telkomsel's vice president of sales, Yuen Kuan Moon.

The solution uses Motorola's latest MPx200 mobile phone, which runs on Microsoft's Mobile Windows, a streamlined version of Microsoft's popular Windows operating system especially built for embedded devices, including mobile phones.

Data communication for the solution itself will use Telkomsel's General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology, which is already implemented in 80 percent of the company's Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications network, and which is currently rated at Rp 25 (0.3 US cents) per kilobyte. -- JP
