Telkomsel adds stations

JAKARTA (JP): Private cellular operator PT Telkomsel will operate five extra radio base stations in the mountainous areas of West Java in a bid to provide better service to travelers between Jakarta and Bandung.

Company spokeswoman Rini Harsari said yesterday that Telkomsel would launch the five new radio base stations today in Padalarang, West Java.

"Telkomsel has invested Rp 4.2 billion in the radio base stations in Gunung Bengkung, Pasir Ipis, Bukit Puteran, Ngenol and Gungung Gedeh," she said.

She said some of the locations were 700 meters above sea level.

She said the stations would provide better service for people traveling by land.

Telkomsel, which operates the Global System for Mobile Communications, has about 220,000 users of which about 88,000 are in Greater Jakarta. (icn)
