Telkom's donation for small companies
The Jakarta office of the state-owned telecommunication company, PT Telkom, gave Rp358 million (US$165,971) in donations to seven small-scale business patrons, two cooperatives and three poor villages in the Seribu Islands on Monday.
John Welly, chief of Jakarta Telkom, said the donations were aimed at developing the role of small-scale businesses and cooperatives.
The donations, he said, are also an answer to President Soeharto's call for companies to share one to five percent of their profits with small-scale industries and cooperatives.
The recipients of the donations includes a company which supplies its good to PT Telkom and others whose products are outside PT Telkom's line of business, such as wooden and rattan furniture as well as jamu, traditional herbal medicine. (03)
