TelkomNet users increase by 80%

JAKARTA: State-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom announced on Thursday that the users of its Internet service provider (ISP) TelkomNet Instan increased by up to 80 percent in the first semester of this year.

TelkomNet users now total 366,450 in the period, from around 190,000 in the first semester of last year, with the total duration of usage increasing from 1.2 million hours to two million hours.

Marketing general manager of Telkom's Multimedia Division Bambang Lusmiadi said the increase in the number of users was due to the company's ability to expand its network to cover the whole of Java, Bali and Sumatra.

Telkom's regional offices had also actively promoted the service, he said,

TelkomNet now dominates the country's ISP retail market, with a market share amounting to 80 percent, according to Bambang.

TelkomNet is planning to boost the number of its users to 700,000 next year by expanding its network to cover the entire area of Kalimantan, Sulawesi and West and East Nusatenggara. --JP
