Telkom service

With interest I read the article about PT Telkom and its 'Gelar aksi' (The Jakarta Post, Jan. 6, 1996).

In this article it says that the minister of tourism, post and telecommunications, Joop Ave, urges Telkom to connect telephone lines in the Greater Jakarta area within three days.

I would like the minister to also instruct PT Telkom to improve its "service" to existing subscribers. Since I moved to Bogor, West Java, last March, I have had nothing but trouble with my telephone connection: the line goes dead at regular intervals, there is always a lot of noise on the line, and it is impossible to use a computer modem. I complained to Telkom and they listened to the problems but no action was taken.

My telephone line was dead from Dec. 5 through 19, 1996, and from Dec. 29 until now. Another annoying fact is that if someone dials my number, it appears that the telephone rings but that nobody answers it. So some people become angry with me for not answering my phone.

Telephone tariffs in Indonesia are among the highest in the world.
