Telkom plans single tariff

JAKARTA (JP): PT Telkom Indonesia, the country's only domestic telecommunications provider, is waiting for the government to introduce a single tariff for the greater Jakarta area beginning this year.

Telkom's president AA Nasution said here on Wednesday the introduction of the single zone tariff was important to provide fair treatment to users in the capital and its neighboring areas of Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok.

"The proposal was submitted to the government almost one year ago, but so far, no approval has been given," he told journalists.

At present Telkom utilizes three tariff categories for users in the greater Jakarta area depending on the call distance. Under the new tariff scheme, all users with telephone area code '021' will have the same rates. (hen)
