Telkom, Miller to jointly organize IT exhibition
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) and International trade expo organizer Miller Freeman-CMP will jointly organize an international conference and exhibition on information technology in Jakarta later this year.
Suryatin Setiawan, the director of Telkom's IT Research Division, said on Tuesday that about 250 foreign and local IT companies will participate in the exhibition to be held at the Jakarta Convention Center from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14.
The annual event dubbed the Techno Pre-Eminence (TPE) Connectivity Exhibition and Conference 2001 will serve as a forum for IT companies to promote their latest IT products.
"It will be larger than last year's exhibition and conference, we hope to receive a higher number of visitors and participants," Suryatin told journalists at a media briefing.
The TPE Exhibition and Conference, which is entitled Internet and Multimedia: Opportunity for All, is scheduled to feature a series of events such as discussions, seminars, and exhibitions.
M. Gandhi, the executive director of Miller Freeman-CMP said that the main benefit of the event for Indonesian IT industry would be educational rather than commercial.
Gandhi said the success of the event would be measured by the number of participants and visitors rather than the value of business deals made during the event.
"The use of IT and multimedia technology for doing business is still very low in Indonesia," Gandhi said, adding that socialization of the technology must remain a priority.
The organizer expects at least 20,000 people to visit the four-day exhibition. (03)
