Telkom gives Net access

JAKARTA (JP): PT Telkom will start its new high speed broadband Internet access service in Kalimantan by the third quarter this year, according to Cable & Wireless Mitratel, Telkom's joint operation (KSO) partner in the region.

The company said the new service would enable Telkom to deliver Internet content at a high speed of more than 5Mbs via a satellite feed from Cable & Wireless KHT in Hong Kong to customers in Kalimantan.

Cable & Wireless Mitratel, along with four other multinational companies, were appointed in 1996 by Telkom to finance, build and operate domestic fixed line telephone services on behalf of Telkom in the respective provinces. (cst)
