Telkom directors 'adopt' quintuplets

BANDUNG: The five members of the board of directors at the state-owned telecommunications company, PT Telkom, will become the foster parents of Indonesia's first quintuplets born here on Monday.

Yesterday, PT Telkom's President Asman Akhir Nasution told the quintuplet's mother, Ellidawati, that the company would pay for all hospital expenses, which are expected to reach Rp 45 million (US$19,148).

"Even for future financial concerns, you don't have to worry. The board of directors will become foster parents of your children," he told the 27-year-old mother at Borromeus hospital.

Ellidawati and her husband, Hastadi Wahyu Wirawan, who is an employee at PT Telkom, have asked President Soeharto to name the five babies.

The two boys and three girls are in good condition. They are still under close observation and in incubators. (17/mds)
