Telkom, AT&T sign deal
JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with AT&T of the United States for the expansion and extension of fiber- optic routes in Java.
The president of AT&T Indonesia, Lie Gondo, said in a statement that the expansion and extension of the fiber-optic network, which is based on the latest Synchronous Digital Hierarchy transmission technology, will be completed in 1996.
AT&T Indonesia, a joint venture with PT Citra Telekomunikasi Indonesia, provided Synchronous Digital Hierarchy transmission and fiber-optic cables last year to connect Batam island's telephone systems.
AT&T Indonesia's plant is worth US$25 million and is located in Cibitung, West Java. AT&T's revenues reached $75.1 billion in 1994. (04)
