Tegal doctors remove 15 kgs tumor
SEMARANG, Central Java (JP): A team of doctors from Kardinah General Hospital in Tegal here has succeeded in removing a 15 kilogram tumor from a 72 year-old woman's ovary.
The three-hour surgery on Siti Marsiti was carried out on Thursday morning by a team of three doctors and six paramedics led by gynecologist Cholid W.
According to Cholid, the tumor was not malignant.
"But since the patient was afraid to have the operation, it was getting bigger and bigger and impeding respiration," he told The Jakarta Post.
The surgery was fully funded by Tegal's administration office.
In 1993, a team of doctors at Lhokseumawe General Hospital in Aceh amputated a leg of a 20-year-old Elly Wahyuni to remove a 45 kilogram tumor. (har/09)
