Teenagers 'rape' a retarded woman

JAKARTA (JP): Two teenagers were reported to police on Sunday for allegedly raping a 20-year-old mentally retarded woman in Cilincing, an officer of the North Jakarta Police said on Monday.

He said police had not detained the two, identified as Ag, 16, and Ad, 12, because they were still waiting for results of a medical examination of the woman.

"As soon as doctors have confirmed that the rape has been committed, we will arrest the suspects," the officer told reporters.

The victim's father, Amman, 50, said his daughter was raped by the two youths on Aug. 21 in an empty house in the neighborhood.

"My daughter did not report the incident to me immediately, because she did not understand that she had been raped. I knew it later when she told me innocently what the two boys had done to her," he told journalists.

The victim, the oldest child in the family, graduated from a special school for the mentally handicapped in 1988. "I hope the police can work faster to arrest the two boys," Amman said. (04)
