Teenager gets 8-year jail term

TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang District Court sentenced on Monday 18-year-old Jefri to eight years jail for intentionally killing his friend Budi Wahyudi and stealing his motorcycle.

Presiding Judge Rukmini said in the final session to hear the verdict that defendant Jefri was proven to have committed the premeditated murder along with the other defendant in this case, Jana alias Calang, whose trial is still ongoing.

The court revealed that on Oct. 8 last year Jefri borrowed Budi's motorcycle in Legok market in Tangerang. He then took the motorcycle to his accomplice, Jana, and together they sold the motorcycle to a broker for Rp 1 million at Karang Tengah village in Legok.

When Budi demanded Jefri return his motorbike, the defendant lied, saying that it had a broken pedal cord.

"The three of them, Budi, Jana and Jefri then went out to collect the motorbike at Malangnengah village. When they reached Kampung Jaha, suddenly Jana attacked Budi with a machete," Judge Rukmini said.

Budi, who was slashed in the face, ran away but fell into a river nearby.

"The victim was still alive and struggling to swim, but the two defendants threw bricks and planks of coconut wood at Budi until he died. The victim's body was discovered by local residents shortly after," the judge said. (41/edt)
